Parents, grandparents and caregivers will have an opportunity to learn how to properly protect children while traveling during a free car seat safety education class hosted by the City of Victoria Municipal Court and SJRC Texas.
The Safe Riders Car Seat Education class will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Municipal Court inside the Public Safety Headquarters, 2525 N. Main St.
The class will cover proper car seat selection, installation and child passenger safety practices. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from SJRC Texas will lead the course and provide hands-on guidance to help families ensure car seats are being used correctly.
According to organizers, proper use of child safety seats can reduce the risk of death in a vehicle collision by as much as 71%.
“We are excited to partner with SJRC Texas and are looking forward to educating parents and caregivers on proper car seat usage,” Municipal Court Administrator Tiffany Totah said. “This event will be the first of several the court will take part in as we lead up to Child Passenger Safety Week later this month.”
The class is open to the public and is intended for parents, guardians, grandparents and anyone who regularly transports children.
Ashley Yakubu, SJRC Texas family support specialist and a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, will lead the class and answer questions about child passenger safety best practices.
Families may also be eligible to receive a free car seat through SJRC Texas. Organizers encourage interested participants to contact SJRC Texas to determine eligibility.
