Homesick for a Place I’ve Never Been

By longing for Heaven, one father reflects on faith, the promise of eternal life, and the reunion that awaits in the presence of Jesus.

Many people believe homesickness is reserved for places we have lived, familiar family gatherings, or the comfort of being surrounded by loved ones. But for some, the deepest longing is for a place they have never seen: Heaven.
For one believer, home is more than a physical place. It is a promise, a hope, and a relationship with Jesus Christ.
“Home is where the heart is, and my heart belongs to Jesus,” he shares.
Although he finds comfort in knowing that Christ is present in his life today, his heart longs for the day when faith becomes sight and he can stand in the presence of his Savior. Earth, he believes, is only a temporary home, and his ultimate destination is a place where sorrow, pain, and death will be no more.
The Bible offers this promise in Revelation 21:4 (KJV): “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”
For him, the beauty of Heaven goes far beyond its streets of gold, gates of pearl, or crystal sea. What makes Heaven truly home is the presence of Jesus—the One who has carried him through life’s most difficult seasons and remained faithful through every trial.
As the apostle Paul expressed in Philippians 1:23 (KJV), he has “a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.”
Yet this longing does not mean his work on Earth is finished. Until that day comes, he remains committed to serving God, sharing the message of Jesus, and fulfilling the purpose he believes he has been given.
Among the most personal reasons he looks forward to Heaven is the hope of seeing his loved ones again, especially his son, Judah.
Simply imagining that reunion fills his heart with a longing words can scarcely describe. He dreams of the moment when Judah might run into his arms and say, “Daddy, welcome home!”
It is a deeply personal hope, one that reflects both the pain of separation and the enduring comfort he finds in his faith. And while that reunion would be a moment of immeasurable joy, he believes the greatest blessing will be standing together in the presence of Jesus, where death can never separate them again.
Tonight, his heart is homesick—not for a house built by human hands, not for a place marked on a map, and not for the temporary treasures of this world.
He is homesick for a place he has never been because the One who makes it home has already captured his heart.
Until that day, he will continue to keep the faith, share his hope with others, and serve the Lord.
For him, the message is simple: This world is not his final home. Heaven is his home, Jesus is his treasure, and by God’s grace, one day he will finally be home.
As Revelation 22:20 (KJV) reminds believers in its closing words, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
